Mr. Charles Martin
2064 Tudor Castle Circle
Decatur, GA  30035

  Dear Charles:

In reading your letter of September 4, 2002, in response to my review of your “Lessons…,” I gather that you feel that a stern refutation is demonstrative of a lack of “love.”  I count you as one of my “sons of Southwestern,” and, therefore, chasten you as such.  Please read Hebrews 12:5-11 and meditate on this passage, the essence of which is “…For whom the Lord [the “father”] loves he chastens…” (vs. 6).  Chastisement is not a reflection of hate, but of love, although “…no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless…” (vs. 11).  And for an example of “tough love” with false teachers, please read Acts 13:6-12.  Was Paul being “unloving” in this passage?

“Chuck,” you must learn that you cannot denigrate the church of Christ, labeling the members as “Pharisees,” without receiving a response from the faithful of Christ.  And you cannot hide behind a facade of “love,” to cloud the issue.  You are welcome to make charges, true or false, but be prepared for the defense.  The old Truman adage is, “If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.”  Therefore, should you choose to make other false charges against the Lord’s church in the future, I assure you that I will scripturally and publicly repudiate them and expose the totality of the weaknesses in your communicative skills.  And I hope that this loving sternness will help you to come back to the truth of the gospel.

If you choose to respond to me again on the internet, please deal with the scriptural refutations of your position with which I have dealt.

  In Him,

  Jack Evans, President

JE/tg
